(i.e. the fundus) using a specialized lens system with a digital camera back. These
images are necessary to document the status of the retina, optic nerve, retinal blood
vessels, and macula. The photographs are used for documentation and for comparison
from year to year for a subject and between subjects. Various eye diseases can be
imaged with digital photography such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration,
retinal detachment, hypertensive retinopathy, holes in the retina, as well as many
other acquired and congenital eye conditions.;
