LOINC description : The Neonatal Infant Pain Scale (NIPS) is a behavioral pain scale that was developed by the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. It can be utilized with both full-term and pre-term infants. CHEO recommends use in neonates/infants less than 2 months of age, but the scale can be used up to 1 year of age. The tool was adapted from the CHEOPS scale (used for children between one and seven years) and is based on the behaviors that nurses have described as being indicative of infant pain or distress. It is composed of six indicators. The infant should be observed for one minute in order to fully assess each indicator.;
