IUPAC definition : Radical anions (or the corresponding salts) derived from ketones by addition of an electron R sub 2 /sub C·–O sup class minus /sup R sub 2 /sub C sup class minus /sup –O·.;

Scope note : ketyls produce two types of conjugate acids: r2c11oh and r2ch1o1. the former are a-hydroxyalkyl radicals and the latter are alkoxyl radicals, but they have also been called ketyls in photochemistry.;
