vaporizing intercalated substances force the graphite layers apart. The exfoliated
graphite assumes an accordion-like shape with an apparent volume often hundreds of
times that of the original graphite flakes.;
Scope note : exfoliated graphite is usually prepared from well-crystallized natural flake graphite.
