ICNP description : Traumatic Wound: Disruption and loss of outer and deeper layers of tissue of the body
surface due to exposure to cold conditions over time, thrombosing of tissue capillaries
and freezing of extracellular fluid especially in body parts with less tissue perfusion
e.g. fingers; stages are graded according to severity associated with duration of
exposition and degree of coldness from superficial damage of skin with white spots,
feeling of pricking and sticking; progressing to severe pain due to damage to superficial
nerve end (1. degree of frost bite) to profound damage of tissue with white frozen
skin, hard but moveable in relation to underlying tissue structure, loss of feelings
and pain due to nerve damages (2. degree of frost bite)and finally to destruction
of tissue structure with necrotic or black skin, loss of feelings and pain due to
nerve damages with high risk for wound infections, loss of peripheral body parts
such as toes, fingers (3. degree of frost bite).;
