ICD-11 definition : Ischemic colitis is the most common form of ischemic injury to the gut and occurs
more frequently in elderly people. The disease can result from either occulusive or
nonocclusive events, mainly in the territory of the inferior mesenteric artery, in
colonic branches of the superior mesenteric artery, and in the superior and inferior
mesenteric veins. The splenic flexure and rectosigmoid junction, where low perfusion
exists, are commonly affected.;
