trauma. It was recognised as a rheumatic disease by the WHO in 1992. Diagnosis criteria
include a three month history of diffuse pain without a disorder that would otherwise
explain the pain. Available evidence implicates the central nervous system as key
to maintaining the pain and other core symptoms of FM and related conditions. FM is
associated with substantial negative consequences for physical and social functioning.;
