Preferred Label : Congenital atresia of stomach;
ICD-11 definition : In congenital gastric atresia, the stomach ends blindly in the antrum or pyloric canal.
Congenital gastric obstruction is rare. Isolated pyloric atresia, pyloric/prepyloric
membrane, or antral webs are uncommon causes of gastric obstruction in the newborn.
Pyloric atresia is classified into three types: (a) complete atresia with no connection
between the stomach and duodenum, (b) complete atresia with a fibrous band connecting
the stomach and duodenum, (c) and a gastric membrane (prepyloric membrane) or antral
diaphragm. In congenital mucosal membranes the etiology is probably related to the
same factors that cause pyloric atresia.;
