ICD-11 definition : Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a syndrome characterized by aching of the proximal
portions of the extremities and torso. Provisional classification criteria for PMR
by the European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology Collaborative
Initiative should be applied to patients aged 50 years or older with bilateral shoulder
aching, and abnormal CRP and/or ESR. The scoring algorithm is based on morning stiffness
45 minutes (2 points), hip pain/limited range of motion (1 point), absence of rheumatoid
factor and/or anti-citrullinated protein antibody (1 point), with optional ultrasound
criteria. Most commonly, PMR occurs in isolation, but may be seen in 40-50% of patients
with giant cell arteritis.;
